In many e-commerce platforms, there’s a growing disconnect between the customer experience and the administrative systems behind it. Consumers expect fast, intuitive browsing and real-time updates, while administrators often face time constraints and outdated tools that make managing product entries slow and inefficient. This gap not only delays updates but weakens the relationship between users and those managing their experience. Bridging this divide requires a platform that serves both sides—one that simplifies backend workflows while keeping the customer experience seamless, current, and engaging.
How might we design a single platform that delivers a seamless, intuitive shopping experience for users while equipping administrators with powerful, efficient tools to manage it all behind the scenes?
Tennis House was born from a challenge I experienced firsthand as a tennis player: the disconnect between a smooth retail experience and the clunky, outdated systems that power it behind the scenes. I saw this disconnect as an opportunity to design a solution that didn’t force a tradeoff between usability and administrative control.
A dual-platform eCommerce experience for tennis enthusiasts and administrators. A responsive website that streamlines gear discovery for players while giving admins a fast, intuitive way to manage product entries in real time—bridging front-end satisfaction with efficient backend control.
Grounded in user understanding and business impact, the design process set the foundation for a platform that delivers clarity, efficiency, and purpose—driven by research, shaped by real needs, and refined through iteration.
I began by identifying a cohesive administrator audience—business owners, product managers, and marketing and sales teams—to align the backend with key goals: increasing profitability, managing product portfolios, and boosting customer engagement.
To guide design decisions, I created a persona—Jordan, a time-constrained CEO focused on profitability and company growth. This revealed the need for a fast, intuitive, and responsive interface, leading to sketches that prioritized streamlined workflows and real-time product updates for an improved admin experience.
I sketched low-fidelity wireframes to explore core solutions, focusing on clarity and functionality. Key features included real-time product updates, secure admin access, tag-based filtering, and streamlined entry editing—all designed to support fast, intuitive workflows for administrators.
Time Constraints: Admins have limited availability and need to complete tasks quickly without unnecessary complexity.
Outdated Interfaces: Legacy systems are unintuitive, slowing down product updates and catalog management.
Lack of Real-Time Control: Admins struggle to adapt product offerings in response to evolving customer needs and market trends.
Disconnected User/Admin Experience: There’s a gap between what customers want and what admins can deliver without collaborative tools.
Create a solution for busy administrators managing tennis eCommerce platforms by helping them update products in real time, streamline workflows, and respond to customer needs efficiently. So that they feel empowered to manage their catalog with confidence, minimize time spent on repetitive tasks, and deliver a seamless experience that evolves alongside their users.
Tennis House is your all-in-one tennis gear companion—streamlining product discovery for players while empowering admins to manage entries, track performance, and update the catalog effortlessly. It keeps both sides of the platform in sync, ensuring a smooth, responsive experience from browsing to backend.
Secure admin login to differentiate roles and ensure privacy.
Tag-based filtering for quick and organized product navigation.
Real-time editing and updating of catalog entries.
Admin login provides a secure entry point that separates public and administrative access, giving admins a protected space to manage, edit, and update the catalog without disruptions.
Tag-based filtering allows administrators to organize and access product entries quickly, making catalog navigation more efficient and reducing time spent searching for specific items.
Real-time editing/updating of catalog entries enables administrators to update and modify product entries instantly, ensuring the catalog stays current and aligned with user needs without disrupting the browsing experience.
Developing the Tennis House project deepened my understanding of UX design and allowed me to create a platform that streamlines the administrative work behind the shopping experience. What I valued most was the hands-on backend work—learning PHP and SQL to build a fully functional full-stack application. This project helped me connect front-end design with backend logic in a cohesive, user-centered system. Moving forward, I see potential to enhance the site by adding a consumer product request form and refining the interface to align more closely with web development best practices.
